TACHS
Overview
The Test for Admission into Catholic High School, commonly known as the TACHS exam, is administered to those applying for entrance into the Catholic High schools. The exam is relatively new and has been used in place of the COOP and HSPT in several dioceses. This new exam tests many of the same academic skills as the COOP and HSPT. The major areas covered on the TACHS are reading, language, mathematics, and general reasoning ability skills.
What is the Test Content?
The exam is broken into several sections which contain several subsections. Reading (Vocabulary & Reading Comprehension), Language (Spelling, Capitalization, Punctuation, and Usage/Expression), Mathematics (Concepts/Estimation and Problem-Solving/Data Interpretation), and Ability.
How Do I Register?
Registration for the TACHS exam is available via the internet at www.TACHSinfo.com and telephone at 1-866-61TACHS (1-866-618-2247). Registration material can also be obtained at any Catholic elementary or high school, religious education office, parish/church, or school guidance counselor.
How Much Does it Cost to Take the TACHS Exam?
An examination fee of $52 includes registration materials, a student handbook, test materials, and a reporting of scores to the three high schools of your choice.
When Should Preperation Begin
Typically, students begin preparation the summer prior to administration of the exam but many students begin even sooner. The exam covers material from grades 6-8 and many students require review of material that they haven't covered in some time. Early preparation is important to improve a student's chances of making their first choice school.
